The dream dies

The main reason for the blog was to track my progress through the Capricorn Half Ironman and then onto the Australian Ironman. That dream has now been shattered. The people who run the Australian Ironman decided to cut the number of competitors by 500 and no longer require any qualification or validation. The result:

The entire event sold out in a single day. People who have raced and competed for many years have missed the event as the organisers cut the number of competitors. Those extra numbers have been taken up by staging another, shorter race at the same time. If they have the ability to manage the number of people in the two different races, why not have the one race that we all aspire to?

Training was very poor this week, with little motivation to get up and train.

15 to go - Pool closing

This is the last week that I could use the pool at lunch. For the month of May, the pool is closed for annual cleaning, repairs & maintenance. My best week, with nearly 5 and a half hours spent training. A fair effort considering the first three days were blanks.

Pool speed is improving. Finally over 10k for a 1 hour run. Bike is still an issue. Managed 60k (almost) but it was a real struggle toward the end. More trainer sessions during the week and another long bike next weekend will hopefully show results.

2 x swim: - 44:29- 1700m
1 x bike: - 2:24:19- 59.43km
1 x trainer: - 0:45:00
2 x runs: 1:30:02- 15.21 km
Overall 5:23:50 :for the week.
