All work & no play
It comes as a bit of a shock to realise that I have not recorded anything here since January. As with most people, particularly those who have a new small business to run and a large number of kids, time just gets away from you and the things that don't really matter get pushed to the side. For me, that meant that triathlon got pushed into the background. So far this year, I have not been to a single event, apart from having a crack at the annual half-marathon in June. The training hadn't been good and I was not as fit as I was last year, when I ran my first half in 2:20:50.
However, while not as physically fit, I was mentally tougher. At the 15k mark, when I felt like walking, I forced myself through and kept going until the end. The result? A new Half PB of 2:13:47.
Since then I've managed to get out and have a 15k run once a fortnight or so. Happily, I managed to push through the 6:00 barrier that had been hard to crack and now have a 15k run at 1:27:41
My next target is doing the half at the same pace. The aim is to run a half each fortnight until I come in under the target time 2:06:36. From there, it's keep the same pace over 25k, 30k etc and in December, I stride out for my first marathon.
