Running Again
Sunday night, I decided to try the calf muscle. The last time I tried, it was a bit tender after 100m, so I stopped and walked the rest of my 5k track. Sunday was a revelation, with both good and bad news. The good news is that I am able to run again. The bad news is that I’m out of condition and, unsurprisingly, still slow. I managed to get out and run my 2k course twice each on Sunday and Tuesday and once on Friday. Best pace for a first run was 5:14, with a slow 5:50 for a second run.
Rather than run 2k and then just stop till my heart rate drops below 100, I'll slowly jog 1k as my recovery. That will give me a 5k run, with 2x2k splits.
Biking was frustrating. I headed out 3 times, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. Best time was 29.6. Still under the 30k average I'm seeking as my next target. I seem to slow after getting over the Baker's Creek bridge. Thankfully, on days when I'm feeling poor, I still manage to go faster than other dodgy days, so I'm sure the 30k target is just around the corner.
The Saturday ride was followed up by a 2k run as a mini-bric. The run was at slow 6:37 pace, but I never stopped to a walk, so it's a start. This year I'm determined to finish a race without walking.
Weekly totals:
Run: 13km @ 5:56 for all runs, or 5:39 excluding the bric and 1k recovery
Bike: 46.95km @ 29.1km/h average. Best 29.6 Worst 28.8
